Forensic Video and Audio Enhancement and Analysis

Forensic video and audio analysis covers both making the content of CCTV, phone and audio recordings easier to understand and technically assessing whether a recording has been cut, merged or edited. Nokta Guard performs all work on a copy, preserving the original recording, and documents every step in the report.

What can enhancement do, and what can't it do?

Low-resolution CCTV footage or a noisy audio recording can become clearer when processed with the right techniques. Enhancement, however, only makes visible what is already in the recording; detail that is not in the source cannot be created, and we do not attempt to do so.

Whether a recording has been cut, merged or generated after the fact can also be technically assessed.

What we examine

  • Technical properties and metadata of the recording file
  • Verification of date and time information
  • Assessment of recording integrity and signs of gaps
  • Image enhancement and sharpening
  • Noise reduction and speech clarification
  • Frame-by-frame detail analysis
  • Search for traces of editing, splicing or synthetic generation
  • Objective, structured reporting of findings

How we work

We obtain recordings from their source (the recorder or NVR/DVR) in their original format wherever possible; exporting or sharing via messaging apps can recompress the file and lose information.

  1. Intake and custody: we confirm the requester's legal authority, sign a non-disclosure agreement and receive the material with a signed evidence handover record. The chain of custody is documented from this point on.
  2. Acquisition and verification: the original recording is obtained without alteration and its hash value is recorded; all work is done on a copy.
  3. Analysis and enhancement: file structure, timestamps and frame transitions are examined, and each enhancement step is documented so that it can be repeated.
  4. Reporting and return: findings are reported together with the scope and limitations of the work. The material is returned against a signed record and working copies are either not retained at all or kept for 3 or 6 months, as the client prefers, and then securely destroyed.

Typical timeframe

Duration varies from case to case depending on the type of device or material, the data volume and the scope of the examination. We share an estimated timeframe after the initial assessment.
