Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS) for Security Control Validation

Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS) safely emulates real attack techniques in a controlled way to measure, on a regular basis, whether your security controls detect and block them. Nokta Guard validates the effectiveness of controls such as EDR, SIEM and email gateways with scenarios mapped to the MITRE ATT&CK framework.

Why breach and attack simulation?

Once security products are deployed, they are often assumed to be working. Yet a policy change, an agent update or a broken log source can silently render a control ineffective.

BAS turns that assumption into measurable fact by showing which techniques are blocked, which are only logged and which go unseen.

What is MITRE ATT&CK?

MITRE ATT&CK is a publicly available knowledge base that classifies adversary tactics and techniques observed in real-world attacks. Mapping our scenarios to it lets us report results in a language the industry shares.

Which controls do we test?

  • Endpoint protection (EDR/antivirus): whether emulated malicious behavior is blocked
  • SIEM and SOC: whether relevant events are logged and raise alerts
  • Email gateway: whether test messages with malicious attachments and links are filtered
  • Web proxy and DNS security: whether connections to malicious domains and command-and-control traffic are stopped
  • Network segmentation and data exfiltration controls

How does the process work?

  1. Objectives and scope: we select a scenario set based on threat groups relevant to you and your critical controls.
  2. Preparation: we agree on representative systems for the simulation and plan communication with your SOC.
  3. Execution: scenarios run in a controlled manner; no real malware is used and no persistent changes are left on your systems.
  4. Analysis: each technique is marked as blocked, detected or missed on the ATT&CK matrix.
  5. Improvement and retest: we recommend rule and policy changes, then rerun the same scenarios after fixes to measure progress.

What you receive

  • A prevention and detection coverage map on the ATT&CK matrix
  • A gap list per control with concrete configuration and rule recommendations
  • Period-over-period comparison showing how your security posture changes

How is it different from red and purple teaming?

Red teaming is a covert, objective-driven attack carried out end to end by a human team. BAS focuses on testing specific techniques frequently and repeatably; BAS scenarios can also serve as a shared starting point in purple team exercises.
